Author Guidelines
1. Introduction
The Ceylon Journal of Applied Science and Engineering (CJASE) is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal dedicated to publishing high-quality research in all areas of applied sciences and engineering. The journal aims to advance knowledge, foster innovation, and provide a platform for local, regional, and international researchers to share their findings.
CJASE publishes original research, review articles, technical notes, short communications, editorials, commentaries, and letters to the editor. All submissions are subject to rigorous peer review to ensure scientific integrity and relevance.
2. Article Types
- Original Research Articles
- Full-length articles presenting original research findings.
- Should include clear objectives, methodology, results, discussion, and conclusions.
- Review Articles
- Comprehensive reviews summarizing current knowledge and developments in a particular field.
- Must critically evaluate literature and identify gaps or future directions.
- Short Communications
- Brief reports of significant findings that merit rapid dissemination.
- Focused, concise, and limited in length (max 3,000 words).
- Technical Notes
- Descriptions of new techniques, methodologies, or tools relevant to applied sciences and engineering.
- Editorials
- Short opinion pieces on current developments, trends, or policies in applied sciences and engineering.
- Commentaries
- Critical analyses or discussions regarding articles published in CJASE.
- Letters to the Editor
- Brief communications addressing issues of interest or raising questions about published works.
3. Language and Style
- Manuscripts must be written in clear, concise English.
- Either British or American English may be used consistently throughout the manuscript.
- Avoid jargon, abbreviations, or colloquial language.
4. Manuscript Structure
4.1. Title Page
- Full title of the article.
- Author(s) name(s) and affiliations.
- Corresponding author with email and ORCID iD.
4.2. Abstract
- Maximum 250 words, structured where possible (Background, Methods, Results, Conclusion).
- Should summarize the main findings and significance of the study.
4.3. Keywords
- 5–7 keywords representing the main topics of the manuscript.
4.4. Main Text
Organized into the following sections, unless otherwise justified:
- Introduction – Background, objectives, and scope of the study.
- Materials and Methods – Detailed enough for reproducibility, including instruments, software, and procedures.
- Results – Present findings clearly using text, tables, and figures.
- Discussion – Interpretation of results, comparison with literature, limitations.
- Conclusion – Main outcomes and implications of the study.
4.5. Figures and Tables
- Numbered consecutively and cited in the text.
- Provide descriptive captions for all figures and tables.
- Ensure high-quality resolution (300 dpi for images).
4.6. Equations
- Number consecutively and clearly define all variables.
4.7. Acknowledgements
- Funding sources, technical support, and other contributions.
4.8. References
- Use CJASE citation style (similar to Harvard or numeric style, consistent throughout).
- Include all references cited in the text and vice versa.
- Example:

5. Submission Process
- Manuscripts must be submitted via the CJASE online submission system.
- Authors must provide all supplementary files, including tables, figures, and datasets.
- Cover letter including the significance of the study and declaration of originality.
- ORCID iDs are encouraged for all authors.
6. Peer Review
- All manuscripts undergo double-blind peer review.
- Review criteria include originality, significance, methodology, clarity, and relevance.
- Authors may suggest potential reviewers but final selection is by the editorial team.
7. Ethical Standards
- Manuscripts must be original work not under consideration elsewhere.
- Plagiarism is strictly prohibited.
- Authors should disclose conflicts of interest and funding sources.
- Research involving humans or animals must comply with ethical standards and provide approval details.
8. Open Access Policy
- CJASE is fully open-access, ensuring that all published articles are freely accessible.
- Authors retain copyright while granting CJASE a license to publish.
9. Formatting Guidelines
- Font: Times New Roman, 12 pt.
- Line spacing: 1.5 lines.
- Margins: 2.5 cm (1 inch) all sides.
- Page numbers: Bottom center.
- Word limit:
- Original Research: 6,000–8,000 words
- Review Articles: 8,000–10,000 words
- Short Communications: ≤3,000 words
10. Additional Notes
- Supplementary data, datasets, and multimedia files are encouraged.
- Authors may include graphical abstracts or highlights.
- Accepted manuscripts undergo copyediting and proofreading before publication.
